Transfer Rumours

The Rumours On The Mill Go Round And Round, Part III [Poll Results]

In previous weeks the transfer rumours being banded about the place have been somewhat resemblant of a rendition of the Oke Koke. In out, in out, shake it all about. Unfortunately for my liking there has been far to much ‘out’ of players I would like to stay, and not enough ‘in’ of the players I would like to join. If you get my drift.

As an example, I personally don’t want Anton to go anywhere….but this week the transfer speculation surrounding him has upped it’s tempo. The price we are apparently asking now has risen to £8m and the key candidates for his signature are Aston Villa and maybe even Newcastle. Apparently.

The thing is with this rumour is that it is sourced from somebody who is “unnamed” reporting to The Mirror. This person has apparently said that:

They don’t want Anton to go but his agent has not been in looking for a new contract so something might happen

I’m thinking pinch of salt here. And once again (as I have mentioned in my previous posts on this topic) I am becoming continually frustrated.

This week, the AJ rumour has resurfaced. Again. And let’s be honest if the rumours turn out to be correct, we are considering £9.5m….jog on.

I think I might start my own rumour mill, there is clearly a business in it. I’m thinking “West Ham sign Christiano Ronaldo from Manchester United for a tenner and a packet of Haribo”

To be honest I think that would be overpriced. If you want to keep him happy the key is to invest in a dummy.

I digress.

They are the main rumours to come out of the past few days. One rumour that has been sufficiently been concluded however is the possibility of signing Kightly from Wolverhampton Wanderers. He has today signed himself a tidy 4-year deal with the Championship outfit. Rules that one out.

In conclusion then, our transfer activity thus far has been:

- Released Solano.

Great Curbs, real great.

I personally hope we keep Ferdinand, I do know a lot of people disagree.

I doubt many people disagree with not signing Andy Johnson though, especially for the sort of money that is being suggested!

Here are the poll results from Part II of this post…makes for interesting reading:

[poll id="2"]

So there you have it. Most readers of this site would rather see Curbishley replaced with Billic than signing a player. But if of course that doesn’t work out then it would appear that what we are most wanting at Upton Park is a play maker in Lanzafame, and a quality quality wing back in Zhirkov. And his is quality.

Make of it what you will…check back soon for further polls

Comments are always welcome!

  1. I’d keep Anton… I know he needs to work on his marking, consistency and concentration levels – but I think he’s got everything he needs in his locker to become a World Class defender…. (it took Rio awhile to really fulfil his potential)….. I’d get rid of Davenport and probably Gabiddon… that leaves Upson, Anton, Tomkins and Collins…. we could bring in a new centre half – but if we did then we should definitely get TOmkins out on a year long loan in the Championship…

As for Curbs, I was not in favour of his appointment in the first place, and have never and am still not convinced by him. But the board are going to start with him next season, and I want West Ham to have a successful season, so for another year I’m going to try and get behind him and hope he produces the goods.

Re: new signings…. I still think we need a phyiscal presence in the middle of the park – some 6ft box to box athlete – more than anything else…. though if we’re getting rid of both or either Bobby and Cole, then another forward is needed…. and also a tricky, creative player a la Tevez or Benayoun…. something really lacking last year….

Am very looking forward to seeing a line-up next year which includes Bellamy, Dyer, Etherington and Faubert… I think fans underestimate how their individual and collective pace will make a huge difference to our team…. all of a sudden we have 3 or 4 dimensions to our game….

Last year we had NO pace anywhere on the field and had one way and one way only of breaking down teams, by shear passing and patience…. with these 4 guys in the team together we have pace upfront, pace on the wings, and pace in the middle of the park…. and Dyer is proper grease lightning…… lets hope all 4 stay fit this season!

  2. i think you are right big casino. we often forget the talent that we do already own because of the injuries that we had last year.

i’m thinking that maybe we will only need to sign maybe one or two players, but i would say that it is important to get rid of a whole lot more!

  3. Great post Sam and agree with a lot of what you say, especially at how the whole in-coming aspect has died down. My worry is that there is nothing that says those who have been injured will not get injured again and then we are back where we started, so it is fine having them available for the beginning of pre-season but will they make it through to the first game and if not what is then there to fill the gap?

  4. Keep Ferdinand, he’s still developing, and it would smack of West Ham as a selling club again. We really don’t need a great deal of new blood, get the injury list down perhaps a creative midfielder. comfortable top 10 finish!

  5. I believe this transfer INACTIVITY is down to the clubs concern over ‘The Blunts’ latest compensation claim – pure and simple.
Much as we all want to see the back of certain players and to see some new blood in,the club won’t be doing any real business until they are sure they have the finances available. A 25-30 million claim for compensation, no matter how rediculous it seems, just can’t be ignored.
Don’t get me wrong, i feel there’s more chance of Dolly Parton sleeping on her front than Sheffield Utd. winning their case – but at this moment she’s giving it just one last try! We,ll all have to be patient for just a few more days whilst Dolly and our ‘director of finance’ Nick Igoe endure a few more sleepless nights!!!
As for the current transfer names being banded around – i,m not sure if West Ham has any real interest in any of them! Let,s not forget the appointment of Gianluca Nani as technical director of football, to assist with “player recruitment and transfer policy”. Nani has been involved with transfer dealings and development of players such as Roberto Baggio, Luca Toni and Stephen Appiah.
If (and this is a big if) West Hams new owners truly want to take our club to the next level, then, no offence, but Nani will not be wanting the names of Shorey, Harper, Johnson and Carr being added to his C.V. !!!!

  6. two bob seems to have it nailed down!

  7. Sometimes it only takes me to read one comment like two bob’s to firmly screw my head back on and make me realise that actually we do have possibilities and potential at our club.

it can actually be quite exciting…as long as we don’t get carried away
