3 Weeks To Sign Him?: Erm, No Thanks

Steve Coppell has said this:

I would prefer no one to leave if I’m honest, but if there is realism in the market I will leave it to the player,

But in three weeks’ time forget about it. If there are any Premier League clubs hovering around my players they have three weeks to do it because then our season starts

Basically this has been interpreted as a friendly warning to West Ham that if we want to sign Nicky Shorey then we will have to do it within the next three weeks.

To be honest, having seen what Joe Widdowson can offer in that position, I’m not entirely sure that even if we were given a year to save up for Nicky Shorey, I would want him.

I wasn’t overly sold in the first place and with the emergence of Widdowson, I am now set in stone that we really don’t need another gold-digger at Upton Park.

If we are to spend around £5m on any player, then I personally think that it will be better spent suring up the right hand side of defence…Valon Behrami.

  6. Shorey is a local lad and I think he was a West Ham supporter as a boy, and we’re all in favour of having players how really play for the badge and not just the money. Plus, I don’t think Shorey will cost $5mil.

  7. agree with that too Marleeen!

£5million is the fee that was being banded about earlier in the summer.

Coppell did also add to his interview that if we were to sign anyone after the 3 week period, then it would be a “transfer fee, plus a hefty premium”

    great

  9. I hope not!

It does my head in…it has also annoyed me that they have waited until now to release it…and that they only sell the shirts in official club shops.

They will end up pricing people out and we will end up like spurs or united with about a million shirts coming out each year

  10. Why pay £5M for Shorey, a player who is decent at best? We have loads of decent players thats why we never get anywhere. We need to get some class players or like Tottenham, invest in youth. We are supposed to be on a par with them, yet they are streets ahead in their transfer dealings

  11. Sorry to disappoint but the deal signed with Umbro means that the home shirt will be replaced every year for the next three years, i wouldn’t really mind so much if they were different. It’s taken some imagnitive marketing making last years away shirt this year third shirt, can’t wait to see how many times the 3rd strip is worn this season.
