Before people absolutely destroy me for making this post, I would like to clarify that this is in response to a comment posted HERE yesterday…
Dan C asks:
can there be as poll on whether people believe curbs should be sacked now. Why now, no special reason other than he is clearly a terrible manager, and we will go no where with him in charge, so I say why not now. Maybe we could get a petition going , then send it to BG!
I will clearly be voting yes, would be interesting to see what the majority think.
So off the back of that, here is the poll:
[poll id="13"]
Please send complaints on a postcard to 155 Elib…..

I can’t believe there are those of you who think Curbs should be sacked now as we are about to start the new season. I believe that if we don’t make any new signings it will be because the Board will not sanction them, and if they sell any of our prized assets then as far as I’m concerned BG can foxtrot oscar because we would have been sold a lie. I expect them to get the sodding cheque book open and bring in the players we need otherwise we’re in for a tough one based on what others have done. If Curbs was to have been sacked it should have been at the end of last season not right now.

I think managers jobs are always on the line. Judging by comments today from members of the board I think Curbs is pretty high on the list to be out early in the season if his ‘let’s see all my signings play together’ gamble doesn’t pay off. Unless the board have a replacement waiting in the wings it’s usually a desperate measure to sack the one you’ve got. Personally I don’t think he should be sacked, but I do think he’ll get the boot before Christmas if we don’t hit the ground running.

If what we hear today about the board undermining him and selling Zamora and Ljungberg without his consent/knowing, then maybe Curbs isn’t necessarily the problem. If this is true, then maybe Curbs should walk before he is made to look even worse by the owners.

Give the Guy a break it was not his fault we have had so many injuries. Lets judge him with a full squad and the Board seem to be moving in a strange direction.

Who are these people that voted yes? Lets look at the last 2 seasons shall we? Curbs kept us up in 2006/2007 with possibly ‘the greatest escape’ ever having inherited a team that was dead and buried from dear old Pards. Last season, he openly stated that a mid table position of respect, possibly top half, would be realistic – we finished tenth! For F***S SAKE guys, let’s see how things go this season shall we. It’s not fair to condemn him AND the team by association before we’ve even kicked a ball – COME ON YOU IRONS!!!

Why should Curbs be sacked, perhaps if we got behind him and the team it may help all of us. Our expectation levels are bordering on the ridiculous. The board at West Ham have to stand up and show they mean business and take the club forward – Curbishley is just one part of that. Without the investment we will find ourselves battling with the likes of Stoke and Hull at the bottom of the table. Time for the board to state true ambition and for the fans to stop believeing everything that is printed in the red top media.

I understand why people say no for bad timing, and in a way I agree, but I seriously believe that with the continued injuries this season we may struggle, and even if we don’t we will not set the footballing world a light with Alan “I’m so boring” Curbishley in charge. I also agree with the posts above who say curbs may not be the only problem, it does seem like the board are not all they where cracked up to be. It may be that I hate curbs so much because I am just disheartened with the whole thing! When the new owners come in, we as fans were promised great things for the club. However it now seems that we have replaced Terence Brown, with someone who is not much better. I would probably have a more optimistic outlook if the chairman had a bit more contact with us fans, and told us where we currently stand. Are we still going for champions league places by the end of a five year plan, which we are now 2 years in to! If not fine, but let us know, so our dreams can fade and die!

I agree this bad timing, but I think if this statement from co-owner Asgeir Fridgeirsson is a strict and correct and has been said then it’s the end for Uncle Alan. When your bosses slate you publicly like this then whats left. If I was AC i think I would want to know if this was true and I would go befor being pushed. This really odes not look good for him! Looks like another of Eggs contracts looks like being paid off early

Polls like this piss me off. Alot of fans (not me personally) but a hell of a lot of fans were saying ‘Curbishly is the man for the job, local lad blah blah blah, we want him as manager’ so the board bring him in. He doesnt have a fantastic first full season due to injuries but he brought in some potentially good players. We finished mid table, doesnt anyone remember we were fighting relegation the year before? we HAVENT got a champions league squad but are trying to build one and it takes time!! but people want success yesterday!
I dont think Curbishly is good at managing people (like Harry was) but he took Charlton as far as possible with a sh*t team and no money. So lets give him a bit of a chance eh?? most people did say he was the man for the job.
If you wanna sack someone lets look at our physio’s/ coaches/ backroom staff if we persist to get injuries. We had more injuries than any other team last season, why?? unlucky maybe, but if it starts to happen again (which i think it might be) then certain questions need to be answered.

his spending on players which are injury prone is unbeliable then whats happend with freddie will carry on due to their huge salarys which then has adverse affect on the squad, what turned me against curbs is selling of zamora and trying to of load Anton both west ham boys?? he falls out and sulks with players this is not how somone in charge football club should behaving. He cant spot talent when hits him in the face he let too many good players leave whos next Ashton? I gave up my season ticket it awful to watch hammers these days.If was not for herics of Green we would have been relegated last season?

I like Curbas and think hes a good manager but unfortunately, he HAS TO GO… and the sooner the better. This latest sage involving Ljungburg must be the last straw – it was an appauling signing and the way it has been dealt with is an absolute disgrace! If our manager is not going to take responsibility for this and other dire signings such as Neil, BoaMorte and Dyer (all bought in on astronomical wages) then he is obviously not strong enough to lead our team. On top of that, having just lost Bellamy and Zamora being sold (?) we are now left with just 2 recognised strikers going into the new season. Its time to give Slaven a shout!!!

How have we been sold a lie by BG? He’s always stated, right from the word go, that the strategy is a medium term, 5 year, plan to bring through talent from Tony Carr’s academy and integrate them into the team. Personally I haven’t seen us sell any of the latest generation of youth players who’ve come through and until I do I’ll back BG to the hilt. He conducts himself, and the affairs of the club, with Dignity and Decorum. He knows that Eggy cocked up the whole Tevez and Mascherano affair and he also knows that he may have to dig deep if the Blunts win their case for compensation to the tune of £40M. Can’t say I blame him for tightening the strings a little. I’ll also reserve judgment on whether it’s been a successful closed season in the transfer market until it’s done and dusted. Many deals are done at the 11th hour because of the “This deal can’t happen unless that one does,” merry-go-round. Frankly it looks like he’s going for quality not quantity with the three signings made so far.
Nani’s a class act doing a good job for the club.
Let’s leave the whole “Sack the manager 8 days before the season kicks off,” to the Newcastles and the Man City’s of this world. It hasn’t got them anywhere and it won’t get us anywhere.

he did open his cheque book… getting in freddie, neill bellamy boa morte & dyer and lets face it THAT HASN’T WORKED HAS IT?! i BG has got the right attitude towards gettings players in this will be benefiticial for west ham in the future. splashing out big money on reasonable players will not make us the force we intend to be, lets eat some humble pie and take a leaf out of tottenham’s book

Let’s get into the season and see. I think we have had such a rocky ride over the pass few seasons that a steadying hand and some consistency is just what we need. Are there really that many managers out there who are so much better and, more importantly, would come to the Irons? I really can’t think of any obvious candidates that would make an instant difference. I agree the club is taking a huge gamble on the key players keeping fit – on current form this looks unlikely.

We are a yo-yo club, what do people want FFS? We have the manager and players worthy of our position. Once we start hitting top 6 with top 6 transfer budgets then lets get the best manager in the world and players, until that point I wish everyone would stop complaining that we don’t have a top class manager and players.

I want Curbs to stay but worry about this board. They stopped teh “hammers magazine” and banned “KUMB” from the ground – far too bloody corporately minded.
Footie wise we need another striker and a creative/goalscoring midfielf player (Dyer ?. Ni idea why Quashie or Bowyer are still required either.

curbs should have gone the end of last season , i have been watching west ham for 41 years home and away , in good times and very bad times . but i have never been bored like last year , bad signings ( history of injuries ) shocking tactics , the worst i have ever seen ( safe 10 games from the end of season played boring football ) curbs kept charlton up that was his job , but would you go and watch that every week . sorry he has got to go and quickly .

I think those voting to get rid of Curbs are an absolute disgrace. He has worked hard in difficult conditions, never slated any of his players or Board decisions and can be seen visually upset when we don’t play well. This guy is West Ham through and through and should have our support. Lets get some facts straight. He had to buy players when he joined as the dressing room was in termoil, unless he payed big money who was going to join a bottom placed team. He bought in players generally who appeared to be battlers, LBM was never fantastic but i for one felt, given our psoition in the league was a good buy as was Neil and Upson who have both In my opinion done well. last season he could not put the same team out twice, how frustrating must that of been. If we want to complain about anyone it should, as usual, be the board. They release funds for players, if we do not buy any i am 100% sure that it is because money was not available. (Please test Liverpool with 25m bid for Kuyt and Alonso). The statements flying around now by part time owners blaiming curbs for Lundberg are a disgrace, he has not got the bollocks to say exactly what is happening and what money is available then he should not say anything at all. Who is this guy anyway, part owner, cant remeber seeing him before.
Curbs, if you read this stick with it the vast majority of fans are behind you

Adam, my only retort would be that he has since brought in Nani to handle transfers and I’ve seen very little of what he has brought so far, apart from a couple of youngsters and only one player of any stature for the first team. Now we have heard it from the horses mouth we can leave of Curbs for the transfer deals etc as those were not handled by him. We’ve been sold a dream by BG and although it is a 5 year one I do not think it unreasonable to expect continual improvement and the concern is with the squad we have at the moment the injury profile is going to be a big risk to that, so we need almost two good players for almost every position and we are missing at least 4 to make that happen. I would love nothing better than a great season for us, I just think at the moment that is not going to happen unless we get some more decent players in before the window closes, and I don’t mean Thatcher and Berner. I don’t think the board have turned on Curbs. Latest club statement: -
Statement from the CEO
West ham United CEO Scott Duxbury has issued a statement regarding Frederik Ljungberg
West Ham United has responded to a newspaper article on Friday about the club parting company with Frederik Ljungberg this week.
West Ham Unite CEO Scott Duxbury said “The signing of Frederik Ljungberg in July 2007 was negotiated by the former chairman Eggert Magnusson and the financial discussions relating to the transfer had nothing to do with the manager Alan Curbishley, who has never been involved in player transfer and contract negotiations.
“All financial matterrs are controlled by the Board with the manager playing a full role in the identification and recommendation of players.
“As stated previously, the termination of Ljungberg’s contract was agreed mutually and was in the best interests of West ham and the player. This was a footballing decision based on the fact the 31-year-old midfielder’s first-team chances would have been limited for the new campaign and allows the club to redirect the wage-saving elsewhere.”
I’m not sure about you but this is quite revealing. It would seem Eggert Magnusson had a great deal to do with the huge wage bill at Upton Park and definitely the blame for the Tevez saga lays at his door.
BG, Nani, Duxbury and Curbs are cleaning up the mess left behind. Eggy was a great guy and a personality. I thought he was a great figurehead for the club, being well connected at UEFA, but it would seem he wasn’t too savvy when it came to negotiation.

BTW – I see a few people have been critical of Nani by asking “What has he done.” Well what he hasn’t done is sign any cropped players – only quality signings so far.
What do you expect – Spend spend spend before the impending decision on the compensation claim by the Blunts? Get real. BG is a the chairman of a large bank – I think he’s capable of assessing risk and doing the sums.

Dunno Goaty, relegation v Blades compemsation, neither are appealing to me but BG can do something about one of them because if we suffer the injuries we had last year then we are in for trouble. I personally don’t expect us to be landed with any compensation requirement as we have already been fined and it cannot be escaped that the Blades went down because of themselves, nothing that we did and I expect that to be the outcome. We still need to strengthen and as for Nani’s quality signings, only one of those is a first team player and I hope he is close to getting some more in because you cannot tell me they are not needed. How come the spuds, pompey and villa are able to spend big and we aren’t? My expectations are for us to be challenging the likes of Everton, Man City, Pompey, the Spuds and Villa for a European spot, especially as we are coming in to year 3 of the 5 year plan and I am still to be convinced that we can, but boy do I so want to be proven wrong.

Hear what you’re sayin’ JMan. Finance is finance however and while there’s the threat of BG being £40M worse off in the near future I can’t see him splashing out megabucks in the short term.
I have commented on posts and blogs that I don’t think our summer signings have yet finished.I still reckon another striker and cover at left back will be arriving (blind optimism maybe but I have faith in the Management team).

Goatygav i think you have hit the nail on the head at the end of your last comment there….it is imoprtant for us to have faith in the people who run our club.
Particularly as we are so close to the beginning of the season…it’s easy to say now I suppose, but let’s judge everyting that has happened thus far this pre-season/last season based on what happens as soon as the first ball is kicked.
the tevez saga has been handled brilliantly by the board, it’s easy to forget that they started battling the other team in sheffield a long long while ago, so credit to them.
