It’s Hard, But Don’t Boo Curbishley…[16 COMMENTS]

A new record low attendance was set last night at Upton Park, a mere 10,055 turned up to watch yet another disappointing performance against the praiseworthy Macclesfield. They put in a big performance and did not deserve the final scoreline. Isn’t worth mentioning the score because it flatters us and simply papers over some of the cracks.

Equally, Sunday’s performance against Manchester City was possibly one of the worst ever performances I have seen from a West Ham team…they played like a team who had spent a large percentage of their wages in the pub before the game. It was shambolic and they owe us big time.

It’s easy to be at the game and feel the need to boo. It’s easy to pick out individuals. And it’s sometimes it is easy to want to make a surge for the technical area waving our season tickets in Curbishley’s face demanding a full refund.

It is clear for all to see that there is something funadamentally wrong at our club.

We have every right to express to the board, to Curbishley and to the team how we feel right now…it is important in fact, that we do. Otherwise Curbs in all his blithering blindness to our current situation would probably continue life thinking that he is doing a swell job, “considering our injury situation”.

I just don’t think that it is ever right to boo the team off at half time….no matter what. At full time yes, if the performance and decision making from the ‘management team’ deserves it. We don’t want to be known as a group of people who make claims of being some of the best supporters in the world and back that up by booing the team at any given moment.

I never thought I would wright something like this next bit, but Curbishley is right when he said this:

The fans are brilliant when they are behind us and they have to realise the effect it has when they are not behind us

I know there are people out there who will disagree with this post and I’m not for one minute attempting to excuse the appalling performances that we have put up with in recent years. And obviously more recently. Neither am I attempting to excuse the shambolic injury crisis that is too reccuring to be a coincidence….there is something wrong with the diagnosis and treatment of injured players at West Ham at the minute and it needs to be sorted. Nor am I making allowances for Curbishley feeding us excuse after excuse about the different factors that have affected our performance each week…and most weeks passing the blame onto somebody else.

I just think that it is so important that when those players pull on the Claret and Blue shirts that we support them fully. Curbishley has until the beginning of next week to conclude any pending transfer rumours (and he has asked that we judge him only when the transfer window is shut). So on Saturday when we may very well be losing to Blackburn, get behind the team. Don’t stop singing…encourage the players who are clearly putting in their all and we may just influence the result.

At the end of the day, if Curbs isn’t going to take responsibility for getting the best out of the team, then we should.

If you want to read an article that will really get your back up, read THIS. The guy is a moron and he clearly hasn’t grasped the real reasons why we are pretty disgruntled right now. It really annoyed me anyway!

COME ON YOU IRONS!!

  1. I am seriuously infuriated by that article, that man has no idea!We didnt force harry out for one!In relation to the rest of your post, sam I couldn’t agree more!Regardless of how badly we are playing you cannot boo at half time!vent your feelings at the end definatley, but I now believe curbs to be in a untennable position, anything other than a significant run of wins with great team performances will not suffice for the majority of the upton park faithful! The majority have beocme tired of curbs, the board, the team and all the excuses, lies and underperforming they bring. I think the best thing for west ham, will be for a new world class manager to be instated, this will raise the fans and give us something to unite behind and the atmosphere around upton park will quickly become positive again!

  2. I swear that some WHUFC supporters want to be in the Championship! I fed up of posting my feelings on AC as I am in regards to reading these sad posts of support for a guy whose JOB is is to motivate and run the team. I was pleased to see WHUFC supporters showing their feeling with their feet, it would seem money is motivating our board and directors – so hit them where it seems to hurt- their pockets!

  3. I don’t want to be in the Championship Nails, neither do any of our fans. I did say in the post that it is important that fans express to the manager, the players and the board our feelings…just when the team are playing we should get behind them fully…that is the only way we can do our bit for getting the best out of them.

  5. Here’s the reality. Curbs isn’t going anywhere. The board like him and they pay his wages. He has the backing of the Directors and they aren’t influenced by Boo Boys, internet blogs or red top tabloid. Moaning about him on the internet is a fruitless waste of time. What the club say is true. Moaning about things isn’t going to get us anywhere – it’s just negative and doesn’t help anyone.

Get behind the club, the manager and players and we’ll do much better. They have a strategic roadmap which is all about sensible management of the club. We’re more likely to get relegated by if we go back to the indisciplined ways of a few years ago.

I was at Man City on Sunday. Quite possibly that’s up there with the worst football I’ve seen West Ham play. It hasn’t made me turn on Curbs as it wasn’t his fault. It was the players on the pitch who were to blame – many of whom we cheered while they beat Manure and the Scousers last year.

FFS we’re two games into the season. If we’re in the bottom half at Christmas and are playing crap football then perhaps the board should look at replacing Curb (Who is West Ham through and through BTW) – but I don’t think they will!!!!

  6. why wait till christmas to get rid of someone who is crap, do it now, no one likes curbs as a manager, as a man he is fine, love the fact that he supports west ham, but would rather have someone in charge who can inspire and motivate average players to be better, because thats what we need!

  7. Didnt watch the game – thank god – but listened to it with my boy friend (Man City Fan – as am in Manchester – actually I live in Salford but they’re all dirty Reds) but want to comment on a few points if I may.

If you pull on the claret and blue you are expected to give it 120% (Mark Noble you should know better!?)

The transfer window is farcical – is Curbs behind the transfers?! Did any true Iron want to lose another Ferdinand?? Also even though he may have wanted to sign the likes of Neill Upson Parker BOA MORTE(!) et al did he sanction the paying of ludicrous wages??

Come on Irons when did we ever boo a team that gave its all – even when we get beat?

We are true fans and by description have to give it our all – even if the team are only there to pick up a wage packet per week that you and I could only earn in 10-15 years!!

  9. Where we are no is partly media frenzy, partly poor performances. What I do agree with is that if we get behind the team on the pitch we will do better. It seems the board are reluctant to give anything away at the moment. We have sold Zamora and Pantsil – fringe players. Freddie which was probably mutual and probably for a good deal less than £6m!. I am disappointed about Anton but good luck to him. Our squad was too big so we are cutting back.

For the morons that want Redknapp back, remember how he squandered the Rio money and almost got us relegated. Bilic is a cheat. Remember the 1998 World Cup and Blanc being sent off? Was that the same Bilic that went to Everton for more money.

Get real you lot. Curbishley is here for a while. We may struggle but we won’t go down. just get behind the team and see where it takes us.

  10. To freddyfreddy – do you really?

to TrevorH – why a cheat? we all do what we have to on the day – would you have been laughing your socks off if Noble had got away with the stupid yellow for hand ball?

And Harry was he best thing we had (at the time!?) and although we all know (or dont know) what he did with the money he had he gave us one of the best teams to watch and support – and no I dont want him back (Stepney Girl though I am) but dont think you can ave a go at him – like I have said the Board ave a lot to do with transfers these days and they must have sanctioned all the transfers and wages that were paid as well as any “agents fees”

  11. i would swap marlon harewood for carlton cole any day of the week!

i can’t stand watching cole play as far as I am concerned he can bugger off to wherever he wants….he never wanted to be here and his performances show that. waste of freddy sears’ space and a waste of my money

  12. sorry? why shouldn’t we boo him? you will see at the end of the transfer window we won’t sign anyone we will just keep losing players! if i remember correctly we have about 10 million to spend and whats curbs doing with it. NOTHING!!! we have signed 3 players but we are only playing one of them and as for the dreadful first half preformance against MACCLESFIELD i am astonished why he hasn’t realised we need players in! i think if he gets sacked we need to bring in bilic and dicanio as his assistant!!!

  13. You may not like what he writes – but he is right! Let us be very careful what we wish for. 2 seasons ago we were looking down the barrel – notwithstanding our crap results so far this season I still don’t feel we are going to be in a relegation scrap. Maybe I should look higher but for me mid-table consolidation for a couple of seasons looks good.

  14. @josh, did you just read the title of this post and then decide that was enough to base an opinion on? go back and read the rest of the post, sam trys to explain why he doesnt think we should boo curbs.

  15. I agree with this post.

You try doing your jobs with 33,000 people (or 10,500 at least) Booing every move you make.

Curbs may not be making a very good job of managing our club, but booing him won’t make him any better. If we need a new manager boong won’t make it happen any faster. As long as we keep turning up and spending money – that’s all they care about.

Bilic? We does everybody think he’d be any good? So he did well with Croatia. An international team with some very talented players but very little expectation.

I doubt he be so good in the Premier League,(which has changed beyond recognition since his day), facing the jeers and boo-boys, having to deal with the press on his back everyday. How many top-flight clubs has he managed again? That’s right, none!

  16. well done sam for putting some faith back in me for football fans as a whole

i get annoyed with people calling for Bilic and DiCanio, but these people would call for their head as soon as they had a bad patch

    i support west ham.
it doesnt matter who’s running the club, who the manager is or who is on the pitch, i support the club.
thats why i spend at least 90 minutes every week getting behind the team.
i can bitch and moan as much as i like the other days of the week, but the one day it makes a difference and i’m able to have a slight effect on things, i do my bit.

if we can get 30,000-odd getting behind the team rather than boo-ing and moaning, blaming one man, then we might start to look like a proper team again.

i’m not curbs biggest fan, but at the moment who else would realistically come to us and be better?

as for this transfer window…Behrami is class.
    he’s a good signing.
but if you look overall, it’s been a very quiet window.
it’s no surprise we’re not signing loads of players, we’ve already got too many.
and if they’re all back fit (i know thats a big if) then we have a decent team
