When Cole unfortunately signed a 5-year deal recently, it was comments from Duxburry that really got my back up, “This news underlines that as a club we are only thinking of moving forward, and are on a sound financial footing”. At the time that really annoyed me as it was a blatant lie – both parts of the statement.
It was not a sign that we are moving forward, and it underlined the fact the we are not really on a sound financial footing. I don’t think there is a single club in the Premier League who would consider signing Carlton Cole as moving forward.
The fact that Zola is personally giving him shooting lessons every day until he can score underlines that perfectly for me. Zola says that, “From Monday on I’ll be working on his finishing every single day until he’s fed up with it. He has to score more goals because it can change performances so much”. No kidding. If Carlton could finish, we would have beat Chelsea, we would have at least got a point against Villa. And that is to name just two recent games.
We are a Premier League side, he is getting paid a Premier League players salary yet he needs finishing lessons. Give me a break.
I’ve kept calm for a long while as I know there is a lot of support for Carlton because he works hard. I’ll give it to him, he does. And he has also improved on his ability to trap a ball and to flick one on. I’ve now seen him win a total of 3 headers this year.I would like to hear from people why they think he is a good asset to the team, it genuinely interests me because I personally cannot see it. I’d rather us play football on the ground and utilise the combination of the pace of Sears and Bellamy.
He has to score more goals because it can change performances so much
Zola has realised that he is pretty much the main reason we are not winning games now, “We play well, we try everything, we create chances but we can’t get it going right now and it’s becoming a problem. Yet we are determined to change things. We deserve much better than this. Bellamy is playing very well and Cole is playing well too. But he needs to be more focused on scoring goals. He knows that”
Every single player in the side is putting in match winning performances at the moment. Green is outstanding, along with Upson, Davenport/Collins. Illunga is playing very well. Parker has been exceptional, so has Behrami. Noble is finding form again, Collison is playing brilliantly. When Mullins features he plays well and does his job. Bellamy is scaring defences and creating chances, for himself and for others (admittedly he’s not scoring as many as I would like, but he is creating so many chamces for the team). It would seem that the job Cole is responsible for is putting his chances away. That is all.
We need to replace him with someone who can finish the chances we are creating. He can be lazy and not work hard for all I care because we don’t need someone who runs around a lot. We need someone who can score – and then we will start to win games and the results will reflect our performances.
I am very frustrated by him and my patience is wearing thin.

What difference does it make if Cole works hard or not if he can’t finish!!! When he signed a new deal I was one of the few people that actually thought it might be a good thing! But now I am so sick of seeing him fluff nearly EVERY chance he has, I would be happy to GIVE him away and give Sears, Tristan or DiMichele a chance! If rumours are to be believed it looks like Bellamy might be on his way in January! With Ashton constantly on his death bed and hardly any first team experience for the rest we will be royally f****d with what we have left! Apparently there are talks with Villa for £6Million for Bellamy with Marlon Harewood coming back this way! WHY???? Ok, Harewood is JUST ABOUT better than cole but we need someone with some flare and some skill, just like I thought I saw in DiMichele the first game he played (against Fulham I think) but what happened???

Agree with both comments made, though I dont rate Cole at all.
He cannot head or trap the ball,or lay the ball to a team mate.
The fact that Zola cannot see this concerns me.
The league is very strong this year and most teams have or will get strickers. If we do not get a proven stricker soon, then we will end up in the Championship.
Zola needs time to learn his job but it is at our expence, and the club are playing with fire.

great post and sooooo true.if bellamy goes were down, simple.tristan must be doing his nut in sitting on the bench watching those chances go astray, come to think of it so must all ov them.liked the fact you mentioned mullins as i do think he brings something to the TEAM.parker does seem to be making a couple of mistakes and if he were to pick up an injury then mullins is more than capable of doing a job for us,and he has scored a goal remember? maybe mullins should replace cole? cole gets to 25 and needs shooting practice? what the hell has he boing learning then as a premier striker?what does training concist of if he does practice shooting?i think were 99% there with the squad weve got but man do we need a finisher.big games coming up so sears and tristan should get a chance i hope i hope !!!!

Surely no-one is calling or Harewood to come back…ISnt he the epitome of a hard working center forward who cant finish??? When will we learn this lesson…He and COle have the work ethic part down to a tee, they simply are no Prem class in fron of goal. You can teach someone to be a goal scorer, born with or without it. Freddie is a natural goal scorer BUT will not be able to hold the ball quite so well…Thats fine if you play wide players which we seldom seem to do.

Unless Zola has studied and gained a degree in psychology, he’s wasting his time on Cole. I’m sure that during training he’s banging them in all day. I just think that he can’t handle the match day pressure. Unfortunately i also think he is a Championship player at best. Of course if Zola persists in playing him then sadly for us all, my thinking will become a reality !!!

don’t you all feel well stupid now. everything you have said has just been laughed at. cole’s on fire, we’ve doing fantastic without bellamy, chasing europe and zolas turning things around, what a difference a month makes.

Di Michele had his first game against newcastle, scored twice. Happy days i thought. i thought wrong.
we would be screwed if we sold bellamy – how about we pay for harewood back and villa can have cole for free

Oh was it Newcastle? Sorry! It’s been so long since we won! Or even scored more than one goal I had forgotten who it was! lol! Do you REALLY want Harewood back? I mean he is ok but I don’t think he is good enough to give us what we need! I can’t for the life of me understand why Zola doesn’t give Sears and Tristan a start to see how it goes? If it’s terrible after 45 mins then replace them!

I keep reading that Zola thnks we deserve better …. We Do !!
we deserve something far better that Carlton bl***y Cole.
I cannot beleive we ave lumbered ourselves with him for 5 more minutes let alone 5 more years !
There are about 30,000 blokes in Upton Park every home game who would “work hard” for the team. It aint no good if they aint got no ability.
Cole cant pass, trap, head, run or finish …..
please someone give me one reason why he should get picked ?
