Perhaps it’s just me, or is every single newspaper in the country writing a story about how we are selling all of our best players and keeping all of our fringe players in the January transfer window? Harry Redknapp at Spurs is more than likely to be after most of them at some point or another, we’ve now rejected a £12m bid for Bellamy from a team whose front line cost approximately £30m. It is true, that Spurs are desperately in need for a bit of class in their strikeforce, but as far as I care if they value Pavlyuchenko at £14m, then Bellamy must be worth at least £50m.
It’s good to see that the Harry turnaround is really in full swing now – all the best down there Harry, you fit right in. Enough about Harry ‘the money-grabber’ Redknapp and Spurs wanting all our players, it’s giving me back-ache.
Like I said earlier, all the talk is about how our entire team needs to be sold just to remain a football club, so in an attempt to clarify a few things here and there, here are a couple of quotes I’ve picked up over the week:
Zola:
“The commitment is to improve this team so we’ll try to keep all our players, everybody at West Ham wants to take this team to a better level.
It’s not easy because we have very good players in our team and big clubs are looking for good players.
There’s also the financial thing but the club tells me it’s not a problem”
Good, next…
Rob Green
“These things happen in life, but we’ve been assured as senior players that there won’t be a fire sale from the chief executive and we’ll just have to wait and see.
I’m happy playing for West Ham in the most exciting league in the world. What more motivation do you need? You don’t want to go out and have a bad game, and I love playing for West Ham
You look at the team and everyone who gets out there wants to play well for West Ham. There’s not many unhappy faces, if any, in the camp.
But there’s not much I can do about it. All I can do is keep playing well. I want to play for West Ham, all the lads do
Spurs and Bellamy
“Spurs manager Harry Redknapp underlined his determination to sign Bellamy by doubling his original £6m bid but the Hammers are determined to hang on to him” – Mail
Zola Again
“As far as I’m concerned the club is on the same line we want to keep our best players.
Yes we will try everything we can to keep them obviously we have a project, an ambitious project and we need good players to achieve that.”
They are all quotes that I have picked up from the last 7 days and from what I can work out it is a very different message to actually what the media are trying to stir up. It will be in the best interest of BG to try and hang onto these players because when it comes to selling a club, a team with these players (Upson, Parker, Bellamy, Green) in it is far rosier than a team without.
To clarify to the media, the players in question when we say we will be offloading fringe players are Louis Boa Morte, Faubert, Gabbiddon, Davenport (unfortunately), Quashie, Spector and preferably Carlton Cole. What you have there is a lot of players, a lot of wages and I would think at about £12m in transfer fees…that should at least pay-off Sheffield United with a bit of change I would have thought.
So either we are being completely lied to once again, and if that is the case there could be trouble because we won’t take to kindly to that. Or Zola and the other senior players are speaking the truth and we can look forward to us holding onto these players in the new year and actually pressing forward.
COYI!

Sorry, but just because Zola has been told our best players aren’t for sale, doesn’t make it true. You are using articles in the paper to rubbish articles in the same papers, which also doesn’t make sense.
Personally, I don’t believe a word of what the owners say. Last summer, we didn’t need to sell any players according to the owners, yet we sold Zamora, Ferdinand, MacCartney, Paintsil for £20m and bought 1 midfielder for £5m. If this is an indication as to their ‘not selling’ policy, then I am very worried.

Zomara was not good enough to take us forward, Ferdinand was never going to become his brother and was, in my opinion, our 5th choice central defender, loved linda but more than happy with ilunga as a replacement, and paintsil? well I wont answer that. Plus we got all that wedge for them too! bonus!
Little sheff utd boy..ur sorry team could not get enough points to stay up. U beat us with tevez in our team so stop grizzling. We were seconds from winning the fa cup the season b4, tevez turing up had an adverse effect on the team so we should never have been in a relegation scrap. I’ll say again – ur silly little team were not good enough to stay up. Your players and ur manager were not good enough to stay up. Man up and accept it. COYI

No thank you, we’ll just have Green. He’s the only decent player you have. Why he’s never been given a chance for England I’ll never know.

Ah I’ve gotten used to the paper’s trying to be agents for our players, touting them around to anyone who will listen
All I can do is take it as a compliment that so many teams want our best players, but I’m happy we’ve rejected the £12 million bid for Bellamy…we need his work rate and attitude, and even if we got a replacement (Pazzini maybe) then we would lose that added extra.
I agree with your point Sam that getting £20 mil for those 4 players was a very good piece of business in hindsight, and Behrami at £5 mil was a complete bargain, so we have moved forward in terms of the playing staff, even if only slightly. I’m all for selling the deadwood at high prices and getting lesser known talent for knock down prices.
All we need to do now is keep our fingers crossed that Upson, Bellamy, Parker, Noble, Behrami and Green are still on the books come Feb.

I can understand people being totally paranoid, but since it doesn’t make any sense to sell off the good players I choose to believe these last rumours about players staying.
I’m with you Sam!

Surely Bellamy is worth more than £50m – he has scored 6 goals in 23 games for West Ham. A fantastic strike rate, I’m sure you’ll agree. Tottenham should not go near him – he is fast and utterly useless, possibly the worst finisher I have ever seen.

Cracking article…well done…have the media got some vendetta against us? I sometimes wonder. Whatever happened to good honest football? has Murdoch really rotted everyones brains that much?
Personally I hope everyone forgets about Ashton and he gets us a few goals at the end of season, plus Dyer for that matter.
Hope is claret & blue. Its the colour for 09

Like a good cheese that matures with age, Bellamy is getting better and will score more goals. he was rampant against stoke and will run at defenders. He must stay, Boa morte, Gabbidon, Faubert can go along with some others.
On a good note glad to see the kids coming through the ranks and playing well ( best academy in the land)
The Tevez saga still rumbles on !!!!!! Blades fans should get over it, narrow minded and short sighted. Your destiny was in your own hands and you blew it. We did not cause you to go down you did. No one would have made this an issue if we had been relegated and we all know this. Tevez did not keep us up. But like all disputes this will not die. The what ifs will continue, teams will score offside goals and get penalties for no fouls, miss open nets and have good goals dissallowed. This will win trophies and relegate teams now and always. Stop being bitter Football is football.

As previously stated it dosn’t make any sense to sell all your best players the only way to get out of the mess we have got ourselves into is to keep these players offload the mountain of rubbish we have and buy a few “CLASS” players and premier survival will solve some of probs we have.

I’m using quotes from the manager and players to rubbish made-up articles in the press – at least that was the idea
I think to get £20m for those players was actually brilliant business…it was a shame to see ferdinand go but we have excellent players in his position. mccartney has spent most of the season injured, zamora has only goone goal or something like that. the only player I miss, and simply for comedy value, it paintsil
the midfield we got in has been an absolute revelation.
I do agree that we have been lied to in the past and it could happend again, but then I think the fans would make it perfectly clear how they feel if that happened.
this post could end up being interestin in hindight, we will see.

Of course the (previous) boards of our club have lied to us before. Although, if I remember rightly Redknapp asked for and was paid 300k for NOT selling Rio by Brown. It was Redknapp that then sold him (‘quids in all round, my son’).
So you’d rather believe the rantings of a bunch of talentless, drunk, coked up, fat, bald duffers than people at our club? The papers are our to undermine any other club than the top 4 and what they write about them makes me cringe. They are all on freebies at executive boxes at Chelsea, Liverpool and Man U, so they sycophantically parade their prostitution to those clubs whilst slagging everyone else. its a gravy train…….
The only problem is the track is running out ….

Is this a fellow Blade? Talk about give us a bad name – we’ve cheated more than most in recent times, West Ham’s was a technical infringement, ours was actual cheating – Warnock, Kabba, Jags handball, the list goes on.

Who’s this little Sheff Utd fan? Bless them, reason we’re in the Premiership is we win games, unlike Sheff Utd who keeps going on and on and on about this relegation lark. Read this, to stay in the Premiership, you need to WIN GAMES! Which you lot didn’t. Shut up and move on. Let’s hope (and I can’t see it) that you don’t get promoted because we want a team that can survive, not get relegated again for another poor season.

I’m getting fed up t’igh teeth wi’ this. We went down because we didn’t win enough. We were clear and then the manager was more interested in cheating as Norton says. I heard McCabe’s businesses are in trouble and its all a distraction anyway.
And since when did we become so embittered we take it out on other fans websites? Wh fans have always been decent. The problem is with the PL – it was set up by the rich clubs to hive off all the Sky money and leave the rest in it. The rules and regs of the Football League disappeared out the window and the only rules that applied were those that left the ’4′ in place. WH got caught on jargon technicallity on paper what Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool have been doing for years in practice.
Get over it and move on.

I think it goes back to his Norwich days, there was a goal keeping coach there, whose name escapes me, but he and Greenie had a few choice words, that coach has now got himself in the England setup and so Greenie has had it harder than most to prove himself.
Thats not to say Tommy Cooper couldnt overrule that and have him in, seeing as he is the manager, we shall see.

Agreed, Prem survival is a must, and without Bellers Green Upson and co, how can we even think about playing with the big boys. I dont want to be a yoyo club. Yes the likes of hull can come up and stick it to some Prem teams and good for them, but they will be another Reading and get picked to pieces by the muscle boys wading in and taking the best players. Time will come when limits are put on spending. In the current climate people cringe to see tens of millions going on players when soon people wont be able to pay to go and watch them. Like the housing market, a crash and burn will happen soon if allowed to continue. Thats my rant, come on you irons.
