West Ham Letting Us Down?

When I first started my blog I had a small little quote in my sidebar essentially explaining why I called the site, ‘The West Ham Process’. One of my eagle eyed readers noticed that I have (since the redesign) removed that comment. RapidHammer commented on this in one of my posts last week, saying:

“When you started blogging you explained the name of your blog as follows: “Being let down is part and parcel of being West Ham, but it doesn’t stop us. We know what we stand for, we know our history and we know what we can be. That is why we keep going back and that is the West Ham Process.”
You’ve changed this statement now telling us that West Ham are different, etc.
And I have a strong feeling that you were right to drop the comment about being let down by West Ham. The future looks bright with Gianfranco Zola and I even begin to take to Mr. Duxbury …”

However another commentor on the exact same post warns us not to be “victims of propoganda”.

On the eve of our FA Cpup 4th Round tie against Hartlepool (which I will be streaming live here for my readers who don’t have access to ITV), I would quickly like to pose the question, “Do we still expect West Ham to let us down, or have we turned to corner under Zola”?

Comments below… (oh, and here’s a link to the live stream: Hartlepool v West Ham Live Stream)

  1. With reference to the comment ‘ i even begin to take to Mr Duxberry’ might i say that through a friend i got an invite to the diectors box last season where i met and had a few conversations with Mr Duxberry, and i can tell you he lives and breathes West Ham, he does not sit in the directors box, but paces around at the back of it. This was a game at the end of the season when we were anchored in 10th, so what he must go through when we are nea the bottom god only knows. So to sum up i feel our club is in good handsand very optimistic about the future.

  2. Sam,

You have to be careful not to establish eye contact with paranoid schizophrenics as well. What else can the club do other than say something and act on it?

The media ‘machine’ is against us and only Jason Burt has been fair minded. And I think that in fact since it was announced that the PL/FA are going back to having an enquiry about Tevez, Dux has actually started to come out and be supportive. Of course to the paranoid schizophrenics that’s because he’s softening us up for the blow where we pay Little Chef Utd 50m and go under.

But I think that he’s kept a dignfied silence, and in fact the tide has turned so he has been allowed to speak out in support. And correct me if I’m wrong but this is something we have never had at WH!

You could argue of course that they are letting us down by sticking to what they say they are going to do, instead of lying to us. I can just hear those fans saying now, ‘the bastards – not only do they not sell off our best players, but they then go and buy the world young player of the year!’ I dunno, what’s the world coming to?

  3. In a word – Yes!
but the activity thus far in the transfer marker, capped by on field success of late, is certainly swaying my opinion.
Still time to go, but the owners and even Duxbury (who I’ve personally been very critical of so far) have done a very good job, so long as we manager to invest the Bellamy money.

  4. its fun to get down. then the excitement is lifting ourselves back up as we always do. ppl seem to forget that being an average team makes the whole league more exciting. how is it fun to support a team that win every week such as Manu U. makes beating teams like cheslea or tottenham like lifting the FA Cup for us. 5. I have just started to allow myself the confidence that we have stopped throwing away good chances to progress in all competitions – at least without putting up a good fight & I’ve not felt that way for many years! Zola & Clarke are the first Management team to have brought the players fittness level to the highest standard and to have the ability to teach what they expect of their players and develop the team effectivly. We are also lucky to have players like Collison, Behrami & Illunga who have fantastic engines: they seem to join in every attack and fly back to cover defensive duties. With more academy boys following Tomkins & Sears and coming through the system (such as Zavon Hines etc) & some shrewd buys ‘The Football Project’ is a blue-print a lot of clubs have started to envy.

  6. i agree. im fully behind zola and clarke and have full confidence in what they are doing. in the past i have not been duxburys biggest fan altho rescently, with the way the club seems to be set up with medical staff, coaching staff and the team we have put together as well as reading the football project, i am now willing to be fully behind duxbury and the way the club is moving forward. i now trust that when/if we sell a player, even ones that we perseive as our best players, we can look forward to the players comin in rather than being worried about what we have just lost.

  7. I think ‘West Ham letting us down’ were words that passed a few thousand lips this past few years but does it stop any of us giving up our love for West Ham…?? No.. you cant its in your blood and will always be. The sad thing is that the football game we love so much is being taken over by money, media and politics. It must be so boring supporting Chelsea!!!

  8. I was sceptical at first, but am now very pleased to have Zola in charge, both in the way that he sets our team out to play and the way in which he conducts himself.

I have to be honest though, I have absolutely NO faith in Duxbury whatsoever. His screwup caused Tevezgate. He said Linda asked for a transfer to which Linda has come out and made a public statement denying that. Zola has said that Bellend did NOT go on strike, but I wonder who let that info out in the public?

I just don’t trust the man – I accept that some of it maybe to do with him having his hands tied due to our financial predicament, but still.

I sincerely hope that we buy someone in this window, otherwise my trust in Duxbury and the board will totally evaporate

  9. I cannot fathom out the reason why Duxberry has got a bad name with some supporters. It seems as though one or two people on West Ham sites have slagged him off and readers have jumped on the bandwagon but don’t know why.

Some say he lied about the Tevez affair – so what if he did? any lies were not directed at West Ham fans. however, any such lies did enable Tevez to play and keep us in the Premiership.

Some say he lied about no players leaving last summer then we sold two defenders to Sunderland for top dollar. Nothing wrong in that either. He got the best price for players that we haven’t missed plus Curbishley resigned.

I’d be interested in any negative facts about Duxberry – not opinion, rumour or ‘from my mate on the inside’.

  10. did not realise this at all! to be honest I wrote him off after the tevez saga – it seemed to me that it was handled appalling…but only at the time. The more I hear from this guy the more confidence I have in his running of the club

i’m actually almost looking forward to seeing how things pan out….what a change of tune!!
