Arsenal v West Ham: Is It Still Missing?

On the 27th October last year, just after our home loss to Arsenal, I commented that there was one thing missing from our game. You can see the post here, but in a very brief summary, I basically mentioned that the football we were playing was exciting to watch and I felt it was a sign of things to come. Importantly however, I spoke of  our inability to put the ball in the back of the net, and that were we able to do it we would be a very exciting side to watch.

How things have changed!

We have now reached a point where our strikers are now converting the chances that the whole team’s work ethic and passion for Claret and Blue are producing. Our football is currently the best I have seen us play for at least 4 years (going back to when Pardew was in the early stages of his reign). I’m excited to want to watch our football and all in all am absolutely delighted that Zola’s intentions when he took over are coming to pass. In fact, as a quick side though, Pardew did have us playing some good football, but it was only under the brief guidance of Brooking that I last felt this excited about a West Ham team. Just a thought!

Before I get to carried away with us scoring goals, I think it is worth just getting our feet back on the ground by recognising how many chances we did actually miss against Hull. Don’t get me wrong the performance was brilliant but it could have easily been at least 5-0. Just a quick reality check!

Team News

Once again (I could happily get used to this!), there are no new injuries to mention. The usuals (Dean Ashton, Gabbiddon and Dyer) are all still out, although Dyer is just precautionary as he is having checks on a slight muscle injury. One can only assume he it was picked up from his return to action after having been out for such a long while, so nothing serious.

Savio could possibly get a start, but Di Michele’s performance against Hull was possibly his best in Claret and Blue, so once again I think he should maintain his place. On the topic of Savio, I do think this could be a perfect match for him to show us all a little bit of what he has in his locker.

Personall I feel that our midfield is perfectly capable of containing Arsenal, our defence are certinaly capable of keeping their strikers at bay, and both of our strikers are in good form…all things considered, why can’t we take all three points tomorrow?!

The game kicks off at 3PM and I will be doing my best to bring you a live stream of the game, just follow the link below:

Prediction: I got my first prediction of the season right against Hull (probably due to my optimistic streak, but I don’t actually recall ever predicting us to lose!). I really want to say we will win and I do have a good feeling about it….I’m going for a 2-1 West Ham win. I’ll probably regret it and wish I had gone for 1-1, but where’s the fun in that?!
