Kovac joins permanently(?)

Just a quick ‘news-flash’ if that term still exists these days we have, according to the official Spartak Moscow website here, signed Kovac on a permanent basis.

Although he is a fairly decent acquisition to our squad, let’s face it he’s not a striker and not someone we need – unless of course Parker is on his way out? Sorry to bring that possibility to your attention! Assuming we have exercised our option to buy from the original loan contract from last year, he has cost us around £4m.

One other positive from this that does spring to mind for me though is that the rumours that we *have* to sell Upson because the banks are demanding it seem a little, if only a little, more far fetched than originally perceived. Ie, if they are saying that they need the money, and selling Upson is the only way to get it, then surely we wouldn’t have had £4m to spend on Kovac?

What do people think?

(there is a reason for the question mark in my title – simply because until our oficial site confirms it, I don’t trust any other news source!)

UPDATE: The official site has since released this statement regarding the red-top tripe that has been circulating re our so called dire need to raise cash fast

  1. Don’t believe what the papers say at all! £10m aint nothing in premier league debt stakes – Liverpool, Stretford Town, Chelsea & Arsenal are all seriously in debt, in the 100′s of millions so you’re not doing too badly – do you reckon the talk of Upson going is coming from his camp? He did it when moving to west ham, upset a lot of people so maybe he’s pushing for a move to moneybags city – we could do with a defender so if he moves then that makes me a bit happier and if not then i’m sure we’ll pay over the odds for a 40 year old geriatric defender who is nearing the bottom of the hill.

  3. I don’t personally have a problem with Kovac being bought. Yes it’s obvious that we need more strike power but look at it this way. Boa Morte is going to be out for a while. Ill wait for you all to stop laughing heh but Zola does seem to like him and he plays regularly so I’m wondering if this is why they have stumped up the cash for Kovac as a replacement for LBM plus it does add a bit of experience to a squad that’s age is depreciating quicker than the Spuds usual we are gonna win the league title hopes
