I was pretty disappointed to hear that you can only watch the next England game online.
I’ll repeat it again for all of you without Internet…you can only watch the England v Ukraine match online.
The FA are obviously saying the decision is out of their control, but whoevers fault it is, it’s just one more step towards taking the game away from supporters…and it’s starting to do my proverbial nut in. Not quite as much as our 2nd half performance on Sunday, but that’s a different matter.
The England game will cost £4.99 if you pre-order before Thursday, and a sickening £11.99 if you pay after…a complete con at that price as far as I’m concerned, so if you do want to watch it, it’s probably best to get in early.
As much as I disagree with this whole ‘exclusively online’ rubbish, I understand that people will still want to watch the game and at the cheaper price. So if you do, here’s a link to go and signup for the broadcast…and again, you will need to do it before Thursday to get the cheap price.
I suppose at half-price, I am half as disgusted
Sam

There is a second option; that of signing-up to Bet365… just what we want to do, encourage kids to be gamblers… only they’re not old enough to join… and won’t have debit or credit cards in order to be ripped-off by ‘Perform’ either!
The FA could have easily have bought the rights themselves, unless, of course they were hugely expensive!
What makes this almost comical, is hardly anybody is going to pay £5.00 to watch a game through their computers, especially as England have already qualified so, assuming ‘Perform’ paid a small fortune to acquire the rights, they’re going to incur an absolutely incredible loss… which will not make up for mine, or my fellow England supporters losses.

And to think that you could get an entire month’s subscriptions (roughly) to ESPN for the £11.99 you have to pay if you signup after Thursday

The game is already well on it’s way to leaving the real supporters behind. The clubs already have supporters over a barrel, demanding whatever sort of ticket prices they like, knowing full well that nobody wants to stop going. As far as this pay-per-view England match goes, I see this as an important opportunity for us to let them know we won’t be conned out of being able to watch televised matches, too. As much as people want to see this match, it’s important for us not to. If they have any kind of success out of this, they’ll start doing it all the time, the big fat corporate mess will spread to our living rooms and it’ll all be over. So, a little sacrifice here could go a long way towards letting them know we won’t be pushed around. Of course, it relies on everyone else saying no, too. Lets hope they don’t make too much of a fortune out of this.

I’d be interested to see how far this goes, for example I’d ditch the behemoth which is sky for £60+ per month (which I pay) and get freeview if I could watch the odd Hammers game online and in good quality for a fiver on a PPV basis.
Instead I spend most games looking for some dodgy feed with Taiwanese commentary that stops every 2 minutes, and not sitting down with a beer enjoying the game. Alternatively I pay through my arse to watch 4 WHU games a season on Sky.
But as for this game, I won’t be paying a fiver for it, nor will I be watching it in the pub so it seems, which is a shame.

I guess the one upside is that folk from *outside* the UK may be able to see the match more easily…
so a chance for all those ex-pats to follow, live, on a decent quality web feed?

Yeah, it’ll benefit people to have a good quality feed, but it could burn an even bigger hole in the pockets of ex-pats, depending on exchange rates. It’s not really a question of only having it on the net, more the cost of seeing it. I wonder whether pubs will be allowed to show the feed?

the demo feed quality looks good enough to show on a big screen… so is there an ex-pat pub out there somewhere who’s going to show the match?

The other problem is that even though this will be a high quality feed, there’s likely to be technical problems, and as this is a one off, there won’t be time to see a resolution.

Yeah, internet streams are never the most reliable. I guess it depends on how many people decide to pay to watch it as to how their servers will cope. Still, there’s bound to be a few other sites offering to stream it for free to help take the load off them.
