Don’t be fooled – it’s from the Mirror

One of the most recent stories to have been published  regarding our takeover bid is from the Sunday Mercury, a local Birmingham rag

It looks promising.

There are claims of “Icelandic owners agreed to sell a 50% stake in the Premier League side” and that “the £50million deal is still subject to formal ratification but a 50-page legal document was dispatched to Sullivan and Gold by the club’s lawyers in the last 48 hours”

Again, still looking good.

Convincing almost.

However looking a little deeper….

A source close to the deal told Sunday Mirror Sport last night that a final agreement between the parties is close to being finalised” ….completely undermined the intergrity of this rumour with three simple words: Sunday. Mirror. Sport.

Interestingly there’s also this: “Sullivan and Gold are not permitted to talk about the deal because they are subject to a confidentiality agreement”. There maybe some truth in that bit…or is it just the Mirror’s way to add some weight to an otherwise entirely unfounded rumour? I suspect the latter.

If it does all turn out to be true, it’s a rare sucessful stab in the dark from the rumour whores at the Mirror…I’d also be delighted, because we need this sooner rather than later and frankly, if it means keeping the club in the Premier League and keeping hold of  our more valuable assests then a takeover is a good thing – whether it’s Gold, Fernandez or Intermarket

  1. It’s just a makeover of a weekend tabloid punt with minimal validity. There’s a lot of it about.

  2. Sam, you are so right that we need to finalise the takeove asap. Look after all the uncertainty at Birmingham City how the new ownership has galvanised the club and improved performances.
However, I would point out that G&S were the outgoing owners who took their profit and went. Gold gave an interview saying that they had taken the club as far as they could and the wealth required to move the club forward was beyond their resources. If they take over where does that leave us?

  3. I don`t think the fans want to be relegated for G&S renovation purposes!
True, we need a new owner who has the capital to make a calculated investment for the good of club and personal gain, though i don`t feel G&S are it. We`ll all know soon enough, BELIEVE ME !
