On the potential of signing Mido…
I don’t want to see some overweight, has-been, who has never proved himself consistently at the top level and who is neither good enough to feature for Middlesbrough, in a West Ham shirt.
I don’t care how little we pay him, or how much he wants to to prove a point. He wasn’t good enough then, and he’s not good enough now.
Thanks.
UPDATE: Can I just clarify, I wrote this before the signing was confirmed as a four-month loan deal (hence the knee-jerk reference). Equally I will always always get behind the team 100% when they’re on the pitch playing for us. But it doesn’t mean I have to be happy with a signing.
Also, here are a couple of comments from a Boro fan:
“Mido said to be in talks with West Ham. Hahahahahahahahahahahaah”
“MIDO HAS SIGNED FOR WEST HAM! omg lol roflmao”

Oh shut up! You have got NO idea what you are talking about! He has always good enough for the prem! It was his attitude that was the problem!

Oh great, let’s lap him up. It’s only a bad attitude that he carries around with him.
Oh yeh, and this goalscoring record:
He has only played 64 times domestically since the start of the 2006 season, scoring just 10 goals.
Top top class
Hot debate. What do you think?

Well done Matt, Mido was a great signing for Spurs and he is only 26 years old, GZ will instill confidence in him like he did with Cole, COYI

I dont think you fully understand the sh*t we are in. Get used to it for a couple of years at least ! Also I’d rather have a man desperate to prove himself than Eidur who is clearly happy with sitting on the bench !

From all reports, Sam, he’s on loan for four months, and willing to accept a grand a week; for 17 – 18,000 it may not be such a bad deal.
We’ve just signed Ilan too, so three strikers in three hours. Why we couldn’t have done this during the two months leading up to the beginning of the season, is beyond me.

I agree with you fella – like I’ve just added in the post, I wrote this before it was only a loan deal confirmed.
It makes it easier to bear but nontheless I’m left feeling entirely disappointed

Go back to packing shelves, because you could certainly never seriously consider management. Or journalism for that fact.
We now have the depth that would have provided 5 goals, which would have put us comfortably in mid table.
Seriously, ask for your job at Tesco’s back.

Maybe up front, but what about at right and left back?
I want West Ham to succeed as much as the next man but i can’t honestly say that these signings have got me excited. Thats all.

Maybe one day we’ll have it all, but just for now we are a skint West Ham United who need to prioritize a little.
Unfortunately, thats the cookie crumbles. But we could, of course, all visit knee jerk cloud cookoo land and moan and whine our way out of reality.

Mido probably wont even get a game for us, he’s “cover”. I cant see him getting in the team ahead of Carlton, Franco & Beni – not to mention this Ilan who by all accounts isn’t a bad little player.
I’m surprised he’d come to us after what some of the narrow minded idiots amongst our lot have sung about him in the past. He doesn’t need the money, he’s trying to prove a point and I’d rather have him in a one on one than Nouble any day of the week. With this many strikers there will competition for places which is healthy and we haven’t had such a potentially good bench all season.
So shut up and go to WHL if you’re going to moan about the job that’s being done.

With all dues respect fella 95% of the time this is one of the most optimistic West Ham blogs to read. I’ve always got faith in our boys and I believe we can push on and still finish mid-table.
However I pay my fees and I’m entirely entitled to my opinion.
We will see with Mido – it may turn out to be a masterstroke, I hope it does.

Like you Sam i’m very sceptical over the Mido signing -but at £1000 a week it could be worth a try. The man is so keen to prove himself and you have to admire him for that.
However if a 1 goal in 3 striker is worth anywhere between £50000- £100000 per week in todays crazy world, why didn’t our new business guru’s offer him a pay per goal contract. Say £25000 per goal.
If he’s any good he’ll earn a good wage – if not then he’ll never play in England again.
10 goals = £250000 in 4 months and West Ham staying up. Every ones a winner!
Like i said – i’m sceptical but when/if we see him on the pitch and for the risk he has apparently taken to prove himself in the Premier League, then he’ll have my support.

This is why I did update it when the signing was confirmed at a 4month loan and @ 1k/week…that’s quite smart.
Equally, he’s got my support when he’s on the pitch playing for us. Every player always has and always will have.
To be honest the despondancy mostly stems from the anti-climax that we as West Ham are always left with

I think this gives us options. I would not have picked Mido but the deal is a no brainer. For than money he’s worth a punt. Don’t know much about Ilan so heres hoping. All we can do is get behind them and hope we get through it. Come you Irons!!!
