I’ve been running this through my head this whole week after our truly dire result against Bolton last Saturday. I was an awful result only further drilled in after their result last night against Sunderland. They lost 4-0 if you didn’t catch it. Which really does make us look even more silly.
Before hand we all knew how poor Bolton are and our confidence was high…which we should all know is a dangerous thing when it comes to West Ham.
I don’t want to break down the performance; who was a fault, who played well, who didn’t etc. But the comments from Parker afterwards have generated some interesting discussion…although I fear, discussion based on a mis-interpretation of what he was actuallyl implying.
On one hand, the fans were edgy and that may have influenced the performance of the players. there were boos at half-time and a chorus of “Zola, Zola sort it out”. Which personally I feel was an incorrectly channelled criticism…I don’t actually believe that at that point in the game, Zola could should much of the blame.
On the other hand, their lacklusture performance may have warranted the criticism vocally aimed their way during the game (and of course, after) and it should have been an added incentive to buck their ideas up.
From where I stand, we as fans should always get behind the team and the players whilst they are playing. That means constantly signing songs of support even when it’s hard to do…and I know it is certainly hard to do sometimes. Half-time and full-time are the times to demonstrate any displeasure. Personally I just feel that whether they deserve it or not, getting on their backs just doesn’t help anyone. Look at the difference in performances from Cole and Faubert since the crowd began to rally around them. You could even use Diamanti’s goal against Bolton as an example…the lead up to that goal saw 5 or 10 minutes of contstant “we are West Ham’s claret and blue army”. Coincidence? Personall, I think not.
I’m interested to know what everyone else made of Scotty’s comments. To save any confusion, here’s exactly what he said:
“I just felt that the crowd were a little bit restless and rightly so, because we didn’t really give them anything to go on.
‘When you’re out there, it’s always difficult, and when you feel the edginess of the fans – which was rightly so – it was always going to be hard. After a little while, although we kept digging in, it became increasingly difficult.
‘It was a very frustrating afternoon. It was a poor result and a poor start from us. We didn’t come out of the blocks at all, started the game really badly and a couple of individual errors cost us.
‘When you’re 2-0 down within 15 minutes, it is always going to be tough. We got a goal back late on and, to be honest, we didn’t deserve anything out of the game, the way we played. Having said that, we did have some good chances, but we didn’t have a cutting edge.”

Think that’s a bit harsh mate – don’t forget how much everyone loved him last year.
There was a time we were all worried that Chelsea were going to come in a headhunt them

yeah it’s harsh i admit that, but at the end of the day we praise anyone who does anything good now, not in the long run, i do not see him ever being a long term manager for west ham. he wants the chelsea job, he’s never said he wouldn’t take it.
i am constantly fed up with managers and players who think west ham are a stepping stone towards bigger clubs…, to us west ham are a big club and we want someone who thinks on the same level and wants us to go forward, not backwards.
Illunga for instance… “i’m at west am on loan, but hopefully i’ve made an impression to progress to a bigger club, like liverpool” that was last year, since that, he’s got a 3 year contract full time and “still wanting to move” if the offer came in he would go and not think about WHU. i understand the offer will be too good to turn down, but this is why you never see True football club heroes like di canio, Steve Bull & Matt Le Tessier, because players and managers today think they are better and want to manage BIG clubs. look at fergie at man utd, man utd we’re not the force you recon with today, he has got them there and he has become a CULT. this is what west ham need, who only thinks for one club and no-one else. David moyes for everton is another one who has succeeded at everton and has no ambitions elsehere.
don’t be hating my comments, coz it’s right what i’m saying. zola’s heart is not in it at west ham and neither is clarkes, so i would be quite happy if the two went at the end of season, and any players who have the same thoughts.
sorry sam mate, but it winds me up lol

In all honesty Sam I don’t see much wrong with what Scotty said.
He hasn’t slagged anyone but he has just hinted that they could do without it and a bit more cheering, singing and chanting as you have already said.
He’s always been an honest type of player and he has diplomatically said what he thinks. fair play to him.

I suppose it would be like taking the bible, reading strictly between the lines, and saying that in the main, it was all about some massive giant getting his ass whooped by a young shepherd boy..and not a lot else.
You know David v Goliath of Gath.
In reality, although it’s (The Bible) mostly unsubstantiated, religious waffle, there’s a lot more too it if you bother reading the entire thing, if now get my drift. Not about word or words in the midst of a paragraph.
or sentence.
Nope….There’s only one Scotty Parker!..and long may it remain so over the Whammers.
