The Clap being spread by Sullivan and Gold

If I wasn’t embarrassed and disappointed with West Ham enough at the moment, I woke up to the news that in all their pearly wisdom and probably becuase they’re “proper” West Ham fans, Sullivan and Gold have decided that there’s no better way to create a rousing atmosphere at Upton Park than to generously give a “clap banner” to every fan at the ground for tomorrow’s crunch match against Wolves.

Classy SuGo. Really bloody classy.

Tell you what, while we’re at it let’s get some drummer in the stands and play some generic jumpy-happy-dancy-feel-good-CBBC tune if we manage to score another goal this season. And then after every goal afterwards from said momentus occasion.

I was also thinking this is an absolute belter of a way to drown out any remaining morsels of noise desperately drummed up by STBL and BML. Nice one, really smart.

Once again SuGo have failed to recognise and encourage the fans who are there week in week out

Once again SuGo have failed to recognise and encourage the fans who are there week in week out, home and away, putting themselves through crap for the team. Choosing instead to attempt to attract a new breed of plastic stick and banner whacking part-time tourist to the ground. We are once again overlooked.

On my crap-banner, I’ll be writing the following:

“If you really want to boost morale and generate an atmosphere, then bring back Ludo, stop laying off staff, stop publicly highlighting our club’s problems, don’t give out clap-banners and STOP TELLING US WE’RE IN BILLIONS OF POUNDS OF DEBT”

Alternatively, I may just run with

“We wouldn’t have got the clap from Fernandes”

I’ve been a season ticket holder for a long while and yet I received a mailout from the club the other day saying, “We need your support”. “Come and spend more money in the shop”. “Buy a 6-game season ticket”. “More money, money, money”. “There are over a million armchair West Ham fans, we used to be two of them”

it makes exceptionally good business sense to buy West Ham because of the value of the Boleyn Ground. Hence why they’re so dead-set on getting us into the Olympic Stadium.

I’ve been spending my hard-earned money with this club for as long as I can remember and I’m truly devastated to witness it being turned into a cheapskate laughing stock by a couple of porn-merchants palming us off with excuses like “it doesn’t make good business sense to buy West Ham”, “West Ham are in huge debt, but we’re fans”…it makes exceptionally good business sense to buy West Ham because of the value of the Boleyn Ground. Hence why they’re so dead-set on getting us into the Olympic Stadium.

Perhaps “palming us off” is not the best turn of phrase.

Just think, by 2015 we could be playing with 4 sponsors on our shirt (front, sleeves, back), in the Olympic Stadium, with a running track, played out to a discoteque version of Bubbles with dancing girls, several more pointless mascots prancing about during the game shooting sausages into the crowd, which incidentally will be half empty over the course of 5 years SuGo have forced true fans away from our club by handing out clap-banners, inflatable tubes, encouraging people with big-ass drums to bash away at their skins for 90mins and by playing music each time we score…all in the Championship. All the while overlooking the fans who have been there for years – despite their promises of “taking West Ham back to their roots”

Once again SuGo entirely miss the point .

What you can do about this infection

- Messages on KUMB.com are suggesting that we all just throw them onto the pitch before the game starts. I’m not going to publicly condone this line of action, but if you’re a steward and you find one with “We wouldn’t have got the clap from Fernandes” on it then it’s mine.

- Just adapt the crappy-clapper with your own message of goodwill for the board, or what you think of clap-banners…like I’ll be doing

- Get there early and round up all the banners in your local vacinity and put them in the urinals

- Just put it under your chair.

- Either way, get yourself to the game and sing your hearts out for the team…proving the point that we don’t need or want these stupid childish contraptions of Satan.

Again, apologies for the rant. West Ham may finally have just got the beating of me this year.

I’ve had enough.

  1. The clap thing is a strange choice by G&S, but truth be known, if they chose to hire someone to cast a magical spell on Upton Park, someone who promised to ride across the pitch on an invisible unicorn all in the certainty that such an action would save our Premier League status, I’d back it.

Sure, it’s daft. But if it works, it works. Whether we’ll get 30,000 fans clapping their banners and driving the team on to victory, or whether we get 30,000 fans united together in the fact that they all believe it’s a woeful idea and instead choose to sing loudly for 90 minutes about the fools in charge, it’ll have the same effect.

I’ve said it before – Fans need to back the team. The rest is just decoration.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 6 Thumb down 4

  2. Great piece, Sam.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, on every point!

What this pair of Davids fail to recognise, is just how bloody good our support is in the first place. I remember well the Preston play-off game at the Millennium, where all their fans had a pair of sticks with which to bang against each other, in lieu of making any noise, vocally. Needless to say, with them not singing, we couldn’t hear them… at all…

Maybe those in the more expensive seats should just rattle their jewellery, that would suit Karren right down to her Olympic-sized ground!

  3. I’m with you Sam. I also feel like I’ve had enough. I’m really not enjoying being a West Ham fan under this pair of planks.

I think you hit the nail on the head in your second paragraph. Their idea of ‘class’ is a fur lined dildo case. I worked on Sullivan’s Theydon Bois mansion back in the late 80s and it really was like Del Boy had won the lottery. Upton Park is fast becoming the Poundland of the Premier League.

And of course, the reason they keep banging on about, and exaggerating, our huge debt is because that will be their excuse for everything they do over the next couple of years: selling players, sacking staff, naming rights…

  6. Makes sad reading to see that one of the leagues traditional “local fans” clubs is being used like this. These guys are just as bad a the foreigners at Man U and Liverpool. They are in it for what they can make not for the good of the traditional fans.

  7. Hi all,

Process Process Process, I must say with the most respect to you my brother that i dont see what is wrong with the clappers (as long as its not the STD type) this is like when they gave out the scarves, its just a way of SuGo (luv that term) enabling us fans to show more support and more noise …im not being funny yelling for 90 minutes is quite draining even when things are going well, so yelling support at the top of our voices at the moment is hard for us fans as this is requiring us to digg deep to find the energy to do this …and you know what, im not getting paid 20,30,40,50 grand a week to shout my voice off for a team who cannot even digg deep for the sake of the club so i for one will embrace these clapper things just to have a break ….and im being serious.

We need to make Upton park a fortress again. We used to be a team that people would always diss but we would shut them up by beating the likes of Man u…etc etc back in the day and people would recognise that we do try to play and when it clicks for us we play like arsenal….but those days are dissaperaing we are now starting to lose our identity,….this needs to get sorted out….zola out? i think so if he don tget us to batter these teams at upton park the Wolves, hulls etc then he must go…..

    [edit] Club career

Stanislas first joined West Ham United at the age of ten[2]. He had been playing youth and regular reserve team football for West Ham United before joining Football League One side Southend United for six weeks on loan.[3]
[edit] Loan period at Southend United

Stanislas made an immediate impact on his debut, scoring a brace, including a spectacular free kick, against Luton Town in the FA Cup second round on 29 November 2008.[4] He returned on 19 January after scoring 3 goals in 9 games for the Shrimpers.
    [edit] West Ham

Stanislas returned to West Ham on 19 January 2009 having played nine games for Southend, scoring three goals, in all competitions.[5] He made his West Ham and Premier league debut on 16 March 2009, replacing Savio in the second half of a league match against West Brom.[6] Stanislas scored his first goal on his first start in the Premier League for the club in a 2–0 home win against Sunderland on 4 April.[7]

Stanislas signed a new long-term contract, lasting until the summer of 2013, on 9 April.[8] He had an extended run in the starting eleven when first choice midfielders Valon Behrami and Jack Collison were both out injured. On 24 May, the last matchday of the season, Stanislas scored the winner in the 2–1 win over Middlesbrough, which sealed Boro’s relegation to the Championship.[9]

Stanislas scored two goals in West Ham United’s 3–1 League Cup victory over Millwall in August 2009. The first three minutes from time before scoring a penalty in extra time.[10] The game was marred by crowd trouble, including pitch invasions after both of Stanislas’ goals.[11] He celebrated his twentieth birthday in style by scoring a goal in a 5-3 win over Burnley. After some impressive performances, manager Gianfranco Zola named him in the starting eleven on a more regular basis with Collison, who usually plays on the left, being switched to right midfield.
    [edit] International career

Stanislas has been capped for England at under-19, under-20 and under-21 level.[12] He received his first call-up to the U-21 side for a friendly against the Netherlands on 11 August 2009 and made his debut in that match.[13] Stuart Pearce then named him in the squad for the 2011 European Championship qualifiers against Macedonia and Greece.

Now if u have read the above and have seen this Boy or sorry Young man play I fail and am sickened to understand why he is not 1st team bearing in mind the other options.

Why is Jonathan Spector a regular Right back for an up and coming good USA team and cannot get a game in his rightfull position at WEST HAM because you ZOLA are trying to turn a potentionally great right winger/midfielder FAUBERT into a right back when we have an International Right back already…!! i could go on and on …..and sorry but i think i will later as I have had a bad day today (all together aghhhhh) and i feel like venting some anger at Zola today….but i feel what im saying is 100% spot on others may disagree with Stanislas and i can understand that one, but spector and faubert someone please explain this to me….Please zola become our Coach along with steve clarke and SUGO please get us Slaven Bilic To manage the team and over see it as a manager must…

And What the xxxx happened to Ludo….

  9. I very rarely post on this site but I agree with everything written. Everything the porn brothers do is played through the media. I have been a season ticket holder for many years, plus 10 games + away each season and this may be my last season. I go when I want to support the team and spend good money. I will not tolerate anyone urging me to spend more. They probably will sort the club out to be honest, and god knows it needs it but I doubt whether they will invest much of their own money. They done ok at Birmingham but no one liked them. Staying up won’t be easy but lets hope. Whatever I do next season, I predict that many fans will not renew because of the porn brothers.

  10. We paid all that money for SAVIO played Stanislas as a sub who outshone SAViO and has done ever since the day SAVIO left….and now hes gone Zola now does not play him enough only when we have injuries to the left side….

Nouble did great when he came in and he was getting better with each game and would have scored a couple by now i think…maybe only 1 but i feel he was getting to grips with it….now Zola sends him out on loan not even a sub….

Zola will drive our best youth away Watch….!! when the great Arsene Wenger comes calling for Jack Collison….I will just say Collison thx for your services out of position mate but Zola preferes someone who he thinks is better than you King Jack….. wait for it……..

    wait for it its coming!!!

    Radoslav Kovac …

    Can i get an Amen??

        • Mate it’s just a little banner, yes it’s naff but some kids will probably like it and nobody’s forcing you to wave it around like a spaz.

As a lead off into a bigger moan about Gold & Sullivan, they’ve made some stupid comments and need to zip it but reserve judgment til the Summer. They’ve not done anything to deserve a backlash yet.

  13. Even though Del Boy and Rodders are gimmick specialists they also are good at what they do to bring success i the future.
It is Embarrassing when i read the paper or listen to Talk-Sport and hear what plans these 2 have but it works, and i don’t believe that any true fan would give up on buying his season ticket because of this.
They make me smile which is good i just wish the team would do the same now and then.

  14. Birmingham fan here. These pair of clowns have zero concept of the nature of a fan of a club like us or West Ham, the passion, the loyalty and the sheer love for the club. Systematically they ripped the heart and soul from my club and it will take years to return although there are some small signs. West Ham are on the big London stage and they are already making you a national laughing stock with their daily media garbage. The pair of barrow boys are even trying to desatbilise us by talking about buying three of our players while you are in a battle for your lives. I would personally drive 2 of the three names mentioned to Upton Park. They claimed to have left us in a strong financial position whereas after the new owners carried out their due diligence we are actually 20 million in adebt showing them to be liars as well as wide boys. The sad thing for West Ham is that Brady hasn’t even opened her mouth yet and that will be really profound when she does…..
