  1. That’s a resounding NO to the Olympic Stadium from a large number of Hammers supporters. I hope The Brady Bunch will listen and act accordingly to the feelings and wishes of “the real owners” of our Football Club.

    • Why is it a resounding no? … just over half the fans say no … but what if the running track was hidden like it is at the Stad de france … we would be no further from the pitch ? …

      • Because more people are against a move to the Olympic Stadium.

It is not designed for football.

Have a think of the costs involved in completely redesigning the seats in order to

        a) get people closer, but maintain a running track

        b) ensure the banking is correct

Plus, the people at the back will never get any close to the pitch.

    • SO 55 favour leaving Upton Park. Hardly a resounding no is it.

On the assumption that a new stadium is unlikely affordable, where does that leave you now….

Factor in people don’t like change until they see it… it looks like Olympic Stadium is the most popular option, that is the problem with surveys and statistics, it is how you look at them that matters. You can see what you want in them.

      • How in any way do those above results suggest that the Olympic Stadium is the most popular option?

I agree that what you’re saying is that 55% are in favour of moving from Upton Park.

Let’s not forget though that 2/3 available answers were suggesting we move away from Upton Park as it is. So assuming that the selections were random, staying at Upton Park would always come out last.

Plus the whole point in the survey addresses the proposal of moving away from Upton Park and to the Olympic Stadium

  2. The Olympic staduim is the only way forward. Transport links to Upton Park are awful,Green Street is Awful, have you seen the drawings and landscape for the new Olympic Park – anyone is mad to turn it down, it move West Ham on.

From a West ham support since 1978

    • Did you read the article by Martin Samuael last week in the daily mail about Chelsea. Since Ambramovich took over their average gate is only 1300 fans better than before he arrived. They clearly stated they couldn’t justify a bigger stadium … so how do you think it would be better for us over redeveping the east Stand and the local travel links?

      • Whta local transport links are there to redevelop. A small undergound station in the middle of an urban shopping/housing area. Not to mention being on a mickey mouse tube line in the first place.

Green Street, in fact the whole of the area is overcrowded and congested. The local population sadly have little interest in attending so we instead scramble in from Essex, kent, Sussex etc as best we can, parking miles away or waiting an hour for an overcrowded tube train.

You can’t just plough through a new A road, new tube station and thousands of parking spaces where we are and raze 1000s of houses to the ground! Anyone with a hint of common sense can surely see that The Boleyn is operating well over the limit of the local infrastructure already.

I don’t want to be sitting 50ft away from the pitch, although the West Stand isn’t far off that already, but this is the only game in town guys. It’s the Olympic Stadium or else frankly…

  3. we must go to the Olympic Stadium the rail links are much better, A12 takes you to the doorstep, area is clean. The Stadium would set us up to a brighter future ie EUROPE.Yes we may be alittle bit away from the pitch in time the fans will found the area of the stadium that suits them. For us season ticket holders the price would go down. So attracting a bigger crowd more money for the club.Plus it would stop Spurs nicking it of us.

  4. lads, lets face it we are all pissed because of the running track, that’s all!

the infrastructure is perfect for the club, we would be jumping over man city, liverpool and arsenal in developments and will be on par with chelsea and man utd for a unique training facilities, 1st class youth development and a world class stage to attract the best players in the world possible.

i would excuse one minor fault of the stadium to gain the opportunity to play in champions league every year, be considered title challengers and domestic demons to embrace and change the English game for our benefit, like its adjusted for liverpool in the 80s, man utd in the 90s, chelsea in the 00s and now it could be west ham in the 10s+.

i am quite exhausted praying for premiership survival every year, being dumped by lesser clubs in the cup. as a traditional establishment, not many clubs frown upon us, and we deserve an exceptional home to drive us forward. we need this move and we need to move forward with the fans ambitions and teh technology of the game.

come on you irons, stop living in the past, start preparing for the present and be a success in the future!

“would you want your kids, to have the same pain as you had being a west ham fan at their age?”

    the answer is quite obvious…

    • Adam, having the Olympic Stadium would not equate to getting into the Champions League.

We would have to agree to move there, regardless, way way before we could ever dream of getting into the CL (which, let’s face it is a way off)

In reality, this is only being fair, we would actually need to consider the real possibility that we *could* get relegated after agreeing to the move.

      Then what?

We’d be playing Championship football in a 60k seater.

We’d never get out of it.

  5. Upton Park is a toilet…… Moving to the Olympic Stadium is the only option, only a fool would think otherwise.

  6. there is no other option but to move to the olympic stadium it’s bigger and more advanced/modern,Stratford station is bigger and has far better transport links then Upton park which hardly anyone can ever get to because it only has one line and has engineering works all the time on match days. Stratford has several different lines from central,jubilee,c2c,national express, dlr and the bus station. Also they have the new and old shopping centres which will hold plenty of car parking spaces.

  8. The East Stand rebuild was never really a viable option.

If I remember correctly, it was last explored just before we went down during the Roeder era.

Space is so limited alongside Priory Road, that even after moving the pitch toward the Dr Marten’s stand, a new East Stand would only increase capacity by around 5,500.

It would cost millions to design and build. City of Manchester Stadium cost £110 million in 2002, and the last figures I saw for the Olympic Stadium had seen costs rise to £550 million.

So at today’s prices, a single stand would be what, £40 million? £50 million? More? An extra 5,500 bums on seats would add around £250,000 income on every home gate, assuming we sold out.

Do the maths – it take over a decade before a new East Stand paid for itself, which makes absolutely no sense for a club with severly jiggered finances.

Moving to a converted Olympic Stadium would give us one of the best stadiums in the country, with around 60,000 capacity, a few miles from our current base.

If GaS make good on their promise, it also creates the opportunity to slash ticket costs, and make football affordable again to a large number of people priced out over the last twenty years.
